We were approached by filmmaker Tristan Hsu to create posters and title cards for his short film, Heaven Is My Country (2018). The film is a meditation on Asian-American identity, the supernatural, and interrogates what it means to be “Western.”

The title card features a re-interpretation of the typeface Rosewood, oft-used to quickly evoke “the wild west” due to its resemblance to old wooden types.

We created three versions of the poster, each featuring an abstracted figure — to reflect the film’s focus on mythology and character.
